LEGO Creator 40772 Glowing Ghost Review – The Perfect Halloween Decoration?

Hi there!

October has begun, and of course that means Spooky Season is back.
To celebrate, today we’re taking a look at a small LEGO set that’s perfect for Halloween: the LEGO Creator Holiday Series 40772 Glowing Ghost.

Until a few days ago, you could get the GWP by using an additional promo code on purchases of 120 euros or more in the LEGO Online Shop. The promotion has since ended—so it’s high time to take a closer look at this little ghost.

Let’s get started!

The Glowing Ghost

The set consists of 167 pieces, which is roughly what I would expect from a small LEGO set in the 15- to 20-euro range.
And in fact, LEGO itself lists the model at 19.99 euros.

The focus, of course, is on the floating ghost.
It wears its two chains in a classic style and hovers above the floor on several transparent elements. Next to it is a small orange pumpkin and a bat, which is attached to a transparent rod in such a way that it looks as if it were flying through the air.
The bat’s wings can even move during this process.

And their eyes really do sparkle

But the real highlight is inside the ghost.
There’s a small lever—or handle—on the back. When you press it down, the built-in red light-up stoneis activated.
This makes the ghost’s eyes and mouth glow red.
And I have to say: It’s really fun.

The effect works really well, especially when the model is sitting on a shelf somewhere in the evening and you give the back a quick tap.
Of course, it’s just a little gimmick, but for me, it’s exactly that little gimmick that makes the whole set what it is.

Great from the front—a bit sparse in the back

From the front, I really, really like the Gespenst.
The design works well, the “floating” effect created by the transparent pieces is just right, and the pumpkin and bat complement the little Halloween scene beautifully.
However, if you turn the model over, it becomes much easier.
The back is still quite bumpy in places and, in some spots, almost looks as if LEGO had forgotten a few tiles.

It’s not a huge problem, and you can quickly spruce it up a bit with a few of your own tiles.
Still, in my opinion, they could have easily invested a little more there.

Special feature: red glow-in-the-dark stones for the eyes and mouth

I bought the ghost last year, and now that it’s Halloween, it looks especially great, of course.
I think the execution is really well done, especially considering the size.

It also reminds me a little of the 2019 LEGO BrickHeadz Halloween Ghost set (40351 ). That set also featured a floating ghost with a small Halloween backdrop, a pumpkin, and a bat. The new model, however, has the added advantage of the glow-in-the-dark brick.

That’s why, in my opinion, 40772 is actually one of the better seasonal GWPs of recent years.
Personally, the current Halloween GWP is much less to my taste.

Is it worth buying on the secondary market?

Currently, you can find the “Leuchtendes Gespenst” on classifieds sites and other secondhand marketplaces for around 15 to 20 euros.
And for that price, I think it’s perfectly fine.

After all, LEGO itself gives the set a rating of 19.99 euros, and for that price, you not only get a small display model but also a real function thanks to the light brick.
Personally, though, I wouldn’t necessarily pay much more than that.
For about 15 to 20 euros, I think it’s a really nice little Halloween decoration that you can pull out of the closet every year.

My Conclusion

I really like the 40772 Glowing Ghost.
It’s small, quick to build, looks great, and the glowing red eyes and mouth give it that little something extra that sets it apart from many other seasonal sets.
The back could have been finished a bit more neatly, but that’s just a minor criticism for me.

The pumpkin and bat are a nice touch, and especially now in October, this set fits perfectly on the LEGO shelf. For me, it’s a really great little Halloween decoration.
And, in keeping with the spooky season, there will of course be more reviews of various older and newer LEGO Halloween sets in the coming weeks.

Now I’m curious: Do you have the Glowing Ghost, too? Would you still get this set, and which LEGO Halloween GWP released so far is your personal favorite?

Feel free to write anything in the comments!
