This ranged from an age rating issued by the Korean regulatory authority to a major leak shortly before today’s unveiling. Now, however, we have a wealth of officially confirmed information for the first time, which helps us better contextualize the major leak and determine which parts of it are actually true and which remain unconfirmed.

We’ve already reported on the first leak from the past.

Let’s get started!

First, let’s take a look at all the officially confirmed information about LEGO Skylines, followed by the additional details from the latest leak.

LEGO Skylines is official

The full title is LEGO Skylines.
The game is being developed by Iceflake Studios Oy, with Paradox Interactive AB serving as the publisher. Of course, this is being done under an official license from the LEGO Group.
Paradox itself describes LEGO Skylines as an entirely new LEGO game and explains in the official announcement that the project had been kept secret until now.

Along with today’s announcement, the official Steam page, among other things, went live. In addition, a dedicated community structure centered around LEGO Skylines has already been launched, which includes newsletters, YouTube channels, and other communication channels.
After all the rumors over the past few months, it’s now finally clear: LEGO Skylines really does exist. And it’s more extensive than expected.

What exactly is LEGO Skylines?

Essentially, LEGO Skylines is a laid-back and highly customizable city-building game.
Players have the opportunity to build their own LEGO city and decide for themselves what it will ultimately look like. The clear focus is on ensuring that each city is unique and bears the personal touch of the player who built it.

Paradox describes the concept in essence through three simple guiding principles: build beautifully, build unconventionally, and turn the city into your own dream city.
The game is designed to allow players to both plan large urban areas comprehensively and work intensively on individual small details.

The statement about available space is also interesting. The developers talk about “unlimited space” and emphasize that LEGO City no longer has to end at the edge of a real table.
Furthermore, there are no traditional building instructions that require every player to build exactly the same model. Players should have the freedom to design, experiment, and repeatedly modify individual elements until their city matches their vision.

More than just a digital LEGO building program

Despite its strong creative focus, LEGO Skylines is not purely a digital LEGO building program.
The city must be functional.
According to the official description, players are responsible for all key aspects of their city, including electricity and water supply, housing, jobs, parks, hospitals, garbage collection, and sewage systems.

Screenshot

Food supply also plays a role.
Steam explicitly mentions agriculture and wheat production. Wheat is needed for donut shops, among other things, which suggests that there are connections between production, supply, and the various deals within the city.
It is still unclear at this time just how complex these production chains will ultimately be.

One thing is certain: Players not only design an appealing LEGO city, but they also have to make sure it remains functional and that its residents are happy.

Extensive customization options

Another key element is the design of the buildings.
The official Steam description mentions a “downright absurd number” of buildings, decorations, and other customization options.

The buildings are not intended merely to fulfill their respective functions.
Players can also customize the appearance of residential buildings, parks, and other areas, sometimes bringing extraordinary ideas to life. Individual elements should be flexible enough to be modified and repositioned.
The goal is clear: When different cities built by different players are placed side by side, they shouldn’t all look practically identical. Instead, they should look as if different MOC builders had built very different cities.

What kind of game can we expect from LEGO Skylines?

LEGO Skylines is listed on Steam under categories such as simulation, city-building, sandbox, construction, management, casual, relaxing, and laid-back.
However, one should be careful here.
Many of these terms are so-called community tags that were added by users. Therefore, they cannot automatically be considered official developer descriptions.

The situation is different when it comes to game mode.
A single-player mode has been officially confirmed.
A classic multiplayer mode is not currently listed as a feature on Steam.
However, the game supports Steam Family Sharing.

On which platforms does the game run?

LEGO Skylines has been officially announced for the following platforms:

PC via Steam

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X|S

Nintendo Switch 2

When will LEGO Skylines be released?

At this time, there is still no definitive answer regarding the release.
Currently, the only information on Steam is:

“Coming soon”

No specific release date was given.
More importantly, a release year hasn’t even been officially confirmed yet.
The often-mentioned release date of 2027—specifically early to mid-2027—comes from the leak.
Even information from retailers—some of which still mention 2026—is therefore not an official confirmation.
So far, we simply don’t know when LEGO Skylines will actually be released.

System requirements to be announced

If you’re wondering whether your PC can even run LEGO Skylines, there’s unfortunately no clear answer at the moment.
The only thing that has been confirmed is that a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system are required.
For the minimum and recommended requirements, the status is currently mostly “TBD – To Be Determined.”
Details regarding the processor, graphics card, RAM, or required storage space are not yet available.

German is supported

When it comes to languages, Steam is already a bit more specific.
Currently, a total of eleven languages are listed: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Latin American Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

The user interface has currently been confirmed for German.
English also has verified subtitles.
Full voice acting is not currently listed for any language, but that does not necessarily mean that LEGO Skylines will be released without voice acting. At the moment, full voice acting simply isn’t listed on Steam.

In-Game Purchases and Online Interactivity

Two interesting points on Steam—or rather, in the age rating information provided—are the mention of in-game purchases and online interactivity.
However, it is still completely unclear exactly what these in-game purchases entail. They could, for example, be future DLCs or other additional content.
At this point, online interactivity shouldn’t automatically be considered a multiplayer mode either.
Steam explicitly lists LEGO Skylines as a single-player game. It remains unclear exactly what the online component entails.
The current age rating is “All Ages,” so the whole family can play the game.

The Backstory of LEGO Skylines

The fact that LEGO Skylines was actually unveiled today didn’t come as a complete surprise.
The first strong indications had already emerged in the spring.
In late March, LEGO Skylines appeared on the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee’s (GRAC) website. According to reports, the application was submitted on March 25, 2026, and rated accordingly on April 9, 2026.

The name “LEGO Skylines” had already been mentioned there, and a connection to Paradox Interactive had been established.
On May 26, 2026, Gematsu, among others, finally reported on this entry.
At that point, however, we knew only two things: The game is apparently called “LEGO Skylines,” and Paradox Interactive is involved.

The assumption that it might be a LEGO city-building simulator in the style of *Cities: Skylines* was based mainly on the name. Details about gameplay, developers, or specific features were not yet known at that time.
Shortly before Gamescom, however, the clues continued to mount. Around August 17, there was increasing speculation about a possible announcement at Gamescom.

And on August 25, 2026, the official presentation finally took place.
Among other things, the title, Paradox Interactive as the publisher, Iceflake Studios as the developer, the core concept as a city-building game, and the versions for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 were finally confirmed.

The Big LEGO Skylines Leak

Now let’s move on to the second part.
In connection with today’s reveal, a major leak about LEGO Skylines surfaced; it was shared on the Cities: Skylines subreddit, among other places, and cites Moose.with.a.Goose and Brick Tap as its original sources.
Some of the information mentioned in the leak has since been confirmed by the official announcement.
However, other details go well beyond what Paradox and LEGO have officially communicated so far.
We must therefore continue to regard these as leaks.

A separate development team?

Even before the announcement, the leak had already named Iceflake Studios as the developer, which has since been officially confirmed.
However, it is also claimed that LEGO Skylines is being developed by a separate team from Cities: Skylines II.
According to Leak, both projects are set to have the same game director.

Similarities to Cities: Skylines?

According to a leak, LEGO Skylines is said to bear significant similarities to Cities: Skylines in terms of gameplay.
At the same time, care is taken to ensure that a city is not only functional but also visually appealing and uniquely designed—and that there is more creative freedom.
This second point aligns well with the official description that has since been published.
However, the claim that LEGO Skylines will be very similar to Cities: Skylines in terms of gameplay is still based solely on the leak.

PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2?

This part of the leak has since been fully confirmed.

The leak referred to LEGO Skylines as:

PC or Steam

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X|S

Nintendo Switch 2

These four platforms are now specifically mentioned in connection with the official announcement. This means that the platform information is no longer an unconfirmed part of the leak.

Release in early to mid-2027?

The leak also provides a more specific release window than the official website.
According to this, LEGO Skylines is scheduled to be released in early to mid-2027.
This has not yet been officially confirmed.
Steam still only lists it as “Coming soon.”
Therefore, it’s important not to claim at this time that LEGO Skylines will definitely be released in 2027.

Its own story mode?

According to the leak, LEGO Skylines is also said to feature a story mode.
However, the existing Steam page makes no mention of such a mode.
Therefore, this information remains unconfirmed at this time.

For beginners and experienced city builders

The leak also states that LEGO Skylines is intended to strike a balance between accessibility and complexity.
The game should be simple enough that even beginners can jump right in, but at the same time offer enough depth so that experienced city-builders aren’t underchallenged.
This approach generally aligns well with the game’s official presentation as enjoyable and accessible.

Updates and DLC over several years

It’s also interesting when it comes to long-term support.
According to a leak, LEGO Skylines is set to receive updates and DLCs over the course of several years. At least, that’s the plan. Whether this actually happens depends on whether the game is well-received by the community.
Although Steam now confirms in-game purchases, these do not indicate a multi-year DLC plan.
Whether Paradox is actually planning major expansions therefore remains unconfirmed.

Support for the Steam Workshop and user-generated content?

The leak also mentions that the team plans to support the Steam Workshop and user-generated content.
The wording here is worth noting.
This does not mean that the workshop has already been fully implemented and will definitely be available at release. Rather, it refers to support that the developers are aiming to provide.
Steam does not currently list Workshop support as a feature.
The same applies here: It’s an interesting possibility, but there’s no confirmation whatsoever.

Connection to BrickLink Stud.io?

One of the most exciting revelations in the entire leak concerns BrickLink Stud.io.
According to the leak, the goal is to integrate or connect with Stud.io.
In theory, this could allow players to design their own buildings in Stud.io and then add them to their city in LEGO Skylines.
This would be an extremely interesting feature, especially for LEGO MOC builders.
But caution is advised here as well.
Even the leak describes the feature as planned, not as a guaranteed feature at launch.

So far, a partnership with Stud.io has not been officially confirmed.
Therefore, it stands to reason that this feature will not be available until some time after the release.

What has since been confirmed from the leak—and what remains unconfirmed

It’s exciting to note that some key parts of the leak have now actually been confirmed. This makes the whole thing much more credible and interesting for us.

The following have now been officially confirmed:

Iceflake Studios as the developer

Paradox Interactive as the publisher

The title “LEGO Skylines”

the basic concept as an urban planning game

a strong focus on individualization while ensuring that cities function effectively

PC or Steam

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X|S

Nintendo Switch 2

However, the following remain unconfirmed:

the planned release in early to mid-2027

a story mode

The specific team structure in relation to Cities: Skylines II

Years of updates and DLCs

Support for the Steam Workshop and user-generated content

the potential integration of BrickLink Stud.io

Especially regarding these points, we should wait until Paradox or LEGO itself provides official information.

The Current Status

Screenshot

After today’s presentation, we know significantly more than we did just a few days ago.
LEGO Skylines is a reality; Iceflake Studios is developing the game, and Paradox Interactive is the publisher. We can look forward to a laid-back and highly customizable city-building simulator in which we not only get to be creative but also have to build a functioning city.

We also now know that LEGO Skylines will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, there is still no specific release date or even a confirmed release year.
Everything beyond that—particularly the possible 2027 release, a story mode, long-term DLC plans, Workshop support, and the integration with Stud.io—remains part of the leak at this time.
At Gamescom itself, the publisher will have its own booth. We’ll likely find more information there.

My Conclusion

I’ve been really pleasantly surprised by the scope of LEGO Skylines so far.
Personally, I’ve never been the biggest fan of building my own cities or anything like that in video games. But when you combine that with LEGO, the many customization options, and the idea of being able to build your own dream LEGO city—one that actually has to work—it sounds surprisingly interesting to me.

Especially as a MOC builder who, even in real life, is planning a city with LEGO houses and my own models, something like this is, of course, exactly the kind of news I’d love to hear.
And then there’s the as-yet-unconfirmed leaked information about a possible BrickLink-Stud.io integration. If this feature actually comes to fruition, it would be one of the absolute highlights for me. In theory, you could design your own models in Stud.io, use them in LEGO Skylines, and perhaps even digitize the LEGO city you’ve built at home piece by piece and expand it even further.

For example, this would allow you to see what your own city might look like if it weren’t just a visual concept, but actually had to be supplied with electricity, water, jobs, transportation, and all the other necessities. In my opinion, this opens up an incredible number of possibilities.

I’m also pretty convinced that LEGO Skylines could be very successful. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what the finished game is actually like, but right now I don’t see much that fundamentally speaks against the concept.
Although it’s based on a well-known and popular game concept, the LEGO adaptation and the strong focus on customization set it apart enough to make it something unique. It’s exactly this blend that I like.

This could also allow LEGO to reach an entirely different target audience. In addition to fans of classic LEGO games like Batman, Star Wars, or the various superhero titles, this could also appeal to players who have tended to steer clear of LEGO games so far but are generally big fans of city-building and simulation games.

And if the leak is also confirmed—namely, that the game will be supported with updates and DLCs for several years—then, of course, an incredible number of new possibilities could await us in the long run.
I’m definitely really excited and can’t wait for LEGO Skylines. I can hardly wait until we get more information, gameplay footage, and, of course, a real release date at some point.
As soon as we have any new information, we’ll of course let you know here on the blog as soon as possible. So be sure to keep an eye on the blog!

Now I’m curious: What do you think of the overall concept behind LEGO Skylines?
Do you find the gameplay interesting? Will you be picking up the game, and if so, on which platform do you plan to play it?

Feel free to write anything in the comments!

For the best LEGO Price Comparison, check here: Exclusive LEGO Deals for all ages

Author: Dante

Hi, everyone!
