This makes the whole thing look really impressive, especially at night or in the dark.

The Monster Fighters also get a small red airplane, which they use to try to stop the Ghost Train.
Of course, the matching Ghost Moonstone is a must-have here, too.
To this day, this remains one of the most unusual LEGO train sets ever made. After all, a real ghost train with glowing parts isn’t exactly something LEGO releases every year.
Today, a new set costs around 160 to 200 euros; used sets go for about 120 to 130 euros, depending on their condition.
And this set is now part of my Collection as well.

9468 Vampyre Castle – Vampire Castle

The next set is the large 9468 Vampyre Castle.
The castle consisted of 949 pieces, cost 99.99 euros at the time, and thus came out to about 10.5 cents per piece. This brought the price per piece to just 8.7 cents —the best value of all the large Monster Fighters sets.
Included are two glow-in-the-dark ghosts, Lord Vampyre, Lord Vampyre’s Bride, a Monster Butler, and a Zombie Chef.

And the model itself is truly something special.
In front of the house is a small wall with a fence. Unlike many of today’s display houses, however, the building itself is completely enclosed.
You can open it up in the middle, giving you access to the entire interior.

It has several floors with a kitchen, bedrooms, a fireplace, and many small details.
Of course, the floors aren’t completely tiled throughout, and by today’s standards, the interior is a bit simpler in some places.
But the key point is: it’s a real, complete house.
From the front, the back, and the sides, it looks like a complete building.
On top of that, there’s this wonderfully dilapidated look with crooked windows, old planks, and the completely run-down facade.

And that’s exactly why the set remains so popular to this day.
I’ve had the chance to admire the Haunted House set assembled several times now, and every time I think to myself: This thing just looks fantastic.

I even own the set myself now and am really looking forward to finally building it when I get the chance.
Price-wise, of course, it’s a whole different story today.
A new, sealed set currently sells for anywhere from 450 to 500 euros—or even more. Later, it was available in the U.S. as part of a Halloween promotion at Toys“R”Us, where visitors helped set up a small cemetery scene.
As a result, it was never a standard retail set and was correspondingly difficult to find outside of North America.
Today, a new copy costs around 70 to 75 euros, while a used one still goes for about 30 euros.
And with that, we’ve actually reached the end.

Those were all the LEGO Monster Fighters sets

With these sets, we’ve now actually covered the entire LEGO Monster Fighters theme.
And to this day, I still think it’s a real shame that no more full-fledged waves were released after 2012.
The series was creative, had a cohesive storyline, great vehicles, classic monsters, unusual characters, and plenty of glow-in-the-dark elements.
Looking back, for me, this is exactly the kind of distinct LEGO theme world that I sometimes miss today.

Of course, we still get Halloween sets, seasonal figures, or little tributes in the Build-a-Minifigure Tower.
But a whole themed world like Monster Fighters? I’d definitely go for that again in a heartbeat.

My Conclusion

For me, Monster Fighters has become one of my favorite old LEGO theme lines.
In my opinion, sets like the Ghost Train, the Vampire Castle, and, of course, the Haunted House really showcase how creatively LEGO worked with its own themes back then.
The many small details, the moonstones, and the story surrounding Lord Vampyre also keep the series interesting to this day.

And that’s exactly why I’d love to have it as a complete set in my Collection someday.
LEGO did release additional Haunted Houses later on, but to me, they’re hard to compare to the original 10228.
The original Haunted House is a real, fully enclosed building, while later models are sometimes designed more like open sets.
Will LEGO Monster Fighters ever really make a comeback?
That’s probably written in the stars.
In any case, I’d be thrilled if it did.

Now it’s your turn: What do you think of the entire LEGO Monster Fighters theme?
Which set is your favorite, and do you maybe even still have one from your childhood?

Feel free to write anything in the comments!

For the best LEGO Price Comparison, check out Brick-Tracker: LEGO® Price Comparison, Top Deals & Marketplace | Brick-Tracker

Author: Dante

Hey there!
