And I have to say: I’m really torn about it. I thought the original fan design was really cool. I’ve also watched a few YouTube videos of the finished LEGO version in the meantime. And somehow, this is the kind of model where, on the one hand, I think: Yeah, it’s got something going for it. On the other hand, I look at the packaging and the figure and wonder if I really want to build this and then display it in my home.

5,363 pieces, 399.99 euros—and a giant Godzilla

The LEGO Ideas Godzilla (21375) consists of 5,363 pieces, stands about 70 centimeters tall with its energy beam extended, and is scheduled for release on November 27, 2026. LEGO is pricing it at 399.99 euros. This is the Godzilla version from the Legendary MonsterVerse, not the classic Japanese film version. The head, arms, wrists, and fingers can be moved into different poses; the tail, on the other hand, is largely fixed and supports the figure.

You can check out the LEGO Godzilla in the official store here.

I really liked the fan design—but I’m not sure about the LEGO version

I thought the idea of creating such a huge movie character out of LEGO was great. Compared to the fan design, though, LEGO has made quite a few changes: The body is more upright, the legs look more massive, and the blue back plates are meant to capture the familiar effect from the movies. You might like that. But here’s the thing: especially in the pictures on the packaging, the finished figure doesn’t really grab me.

In motion, in the videos, it looks significantly better in some cases. To be fair, I have to admit that. But I’m not sure yet if building it would really interest me. Maybe I just need to see the model in person. At nearly 400 euros, though, I don’t want to wait until after I’ve bought it to find out if it’s worth it.

What do other LEGO fans say?

I find it fascinating how varied the reactions are. In public discussions about the set, many are impressed by its size and overall design. Some think the proportions match the movie version well and are looking forward to an unusual display piece. Others are bothered by the very upright posture, the bulky legs, and the comparatively small head.

Another point of criticism is the design of the blue spine and the so-called “Atomic Breath.” Some fans would have preferred transparent or even illuminated elements here, so the effect would be more like in the movie. And, of course, the question of price keeps coming up. But there are also enthusiastic fans who want exactly this large, imposing figure. So this is by no means a model that everyone agrees on.

400 euros for Godzilla—that automatically makes me think of the Hulkbuster

I’m a Marvel fan, and I’ve always thought Godzilla was cool, too. But when I look at what LEGO is offering here for 399.99 euros, I can’t help but think of the big LEGO Marvel Hulkbuster (76210). Back then, it had a MSRP of 549.99 euros. Yes, that was significantly more money. Still, with that set, I personally felt like I was tackling an extraordinary building project.

That said, I have to be honest here: There was an alternative MOC for the Hulkbuster that, in my opinion, looked a thousand times better than the official build using the available pieces. But that just goes to show how differently people can rate large display models like this. For me personally, just having a lot of pieces isn’t enough.

I find the Godzilla GWP almost more exciting than the actual set

But here’s the crazy part: What actually appeals to me most about this whole announcement is the free gift! The Godzilla Logo with Footprint (40888) consists of 359 pieces and features a giant footprint, a small destroyed city scene, and the Godzilla lettering. I think it’s really nicely done. That lettering in particular has a certain appeal for me, and the small diorama tells a story within a compact space.

For whatever reason, this little model appeals to me much more right now than the big Godzilla. No question about it—it’s got something special! According to the announcement, this freebie will be available from November 27 to 30, 2026, with the purchase of the large Godzilla set from LEGO, while supplies last. You shouldn’t assume this means it’ll be available for individual purchase or that there’s a minimum order requirement.

Would I jump on this right away on Black Friday?

No, not right now. And that’s not because I think Godzilla is bad in general. On the contrary: The figure is based on a strong source material, is enormous in size, and certainly features interesting building techniques. But I find 399.99 euros simply steep for what I’ve seen so far. The GWP is definitely a highlight for me, but I wouldn’t automatically spend 400 euros on a main set that I’m still unsure about.

Whether the set will eventually become available on the open market, whether there will be discounts, or how it will fare as a collector’s item cannot be reliably predicted at this stage. If you want to keep an eye on the price, you can check out the Top Deals and Live Deals. Maybe Godzilla will look much better when built up in the store than it does on the box. Maybe there are also some really good alternative building ideas. But right now, I’m not quite at the point where I’d say, “I have to have this.” The little footprint GWP? I think that’s really well done, though.

Now I’d love to hear your thoughts: Do you think the large Godzilla set is a success? Do you not mind the price because you’re a fan? Or do you maybe even like the free bonus set better than the main model?
