LEGO Ideas 21369 The X-Files Officially Unveiled
LEGO Ideas 21369 The X-Files, set to be released on August 1, 2026, is a set that really strikes a chord with me personally. I’m an X-Files fan, and for that reason alone, it was clear: I had to take a closer look at this set.
The model consists of 1,478 pieces, includes eight Minifigures, and has a MSRP of 199.99 euros. You’ll build Mulder’s basement office, a forest scene, and a UFO hovering above it. Plus, at launch, you’ll receive the exclusive LEGO 40896 Scully’s Lab as a free bonus.

The set captures the series remarkably well
I really like the basic concept. Mulder’s office downstairs with all the little references, the dark forest upstairs, and the UFO above it: That’s exactly the kind of scene The X-Files needs as a LEGO set.
The cast is also impressive. Mulder and Scully are, of course, must-haves. They’re joined by Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, the Cancer Man, a Gray alien, and the parasite from the episode “The Host.” This is a really great mix, especially for fans of the series.
Of course, they could have included even more characters. The Lone Archers, for example, would have been great, too. But eight figures in an Ideas set is generally a decent number to start with.
The price is the big problem
As much as I like The X-Files, 199.99 euros for 1,478 pieces is a bit much. Without the GWP, I would have been much more comfortable with a price of 150 to 160 euros. That’s exactly where I would have said: expensive, but still kind of okay as a fan.
But at 200 euros, you’d expect LEGO to deliver across the board. Stickers, rather simple minifigures without much detail, and a somewhat compact model don’t make the price any easier to swallow.
I like the set itself. I don’t like the price.
Scully’s Lab Makes the Initial Purchase More Exciting
For me, the most important thing is definitely the GWP. LEGO 40896 Scully’s Lab consists of 221 pieces and includes Dana Scully in an exclusive lab outfit. It’s exactly this figure that makes the free gift so appealing to fans.

The lab set is a great addition to the main set and doesn’t feel like just some random extra. The microscope, examination table, lab accessories, and the other Scully figure fit the theme perfectly. That’s exactly why this GWP will have many X-Files fans clamoring for it as soon as it’s released.
And yes, unfortunately, it works for me, too. It’s only because of the GWP that the introductory offer is even worth considering.
GWP or a later discount?
That’s the key question this time. If you wait for a discount, you’ll probably save a lot of money. If you buy directly from LEGO, you’ll get Scully’s Lab as a bonus.
From a purely price-based perspective, a later discount would probably make more sense. Emotionally, though, it’s a different story: As a X-Files fan, you naturally want the entire scene featuring Scully’s lab. That’s exactly what LEGO is aiming for with this strategy.
I don’t think it’s ideal, but this issue still affects me personally.
My Conclusion
To me, LEGO Ideas 21369 The X-Files is a great set, but it’s too expensive. The scene captures the essence of the series well, the selection of minifigures is exciting, and the UFO hovering over the forest works well as a display model.
But the real incentive to buy is the LEGO 40896 Scully’s Lab set. Without the GWP, I’d be much more likely to wait for a discount. With the GWP, as an X-Files fan, I at least have to seriously consider snapping it up right when it’s released.
