Tomorrow, Monday, August 10, 2026, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: The new Secret Lair Commander Deck: Hatsune Miku from Magic: The Gathering officially goes on sale. And this time, it’s not one of the usual small Secret Lair drops, but a complete, ready-to-play Commander deck with 100 cards.
The deck is priced at $149.99, and sales begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, which is 6:00 p.m.here in Germany. It is available exclusively through the Secret Lair online store.
What’s included in the Hatsune Miku deck?
The deck consists of a total of 100 cards and is played in the colors green and white. The commander is Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice, who is given a completely new Hatsune Miku design here as “Miku, Song of the People.” The main gameplay objective is to bring creatures and tokens onto the board, maintain your life total, and gradually build up an ever-larger board.
Of course, the exclusive artwork is particularly interesting for collectors. In total, there are 14 different new borderless Hatsune Miku artworks by Japanese artists. Of these, 12 are different regular cards featuring new artwork, as well as two different standard lands —a Plains and a Forest.
Since each of the two lands appears seven times, there are actually a total of 26 foil cards featuring the new artwork in the deck:
12 borderless foil cards + 7 levels + 7 forests.
The remaining 74 cards are non-foil reprints and do not feature completely new Miku artwork. Mechanically, the Miku cards are also existing Magic cards and do not include 12 or 14 completely new card effects.
In addition, you’ll receive 10 double-sided tokens, a large Miku display commander, and a matching deck box.
No stress about the limit this time?
And now comes what is probably one of the most important pieces of information in the entire drop.
Wizards is testing a new sales model for the Hatsune Miku deck that is somewhat reminiscent of the early days of Secret Lair. There is a limited ordering window of exactly 24 hours. Every order placed within this time frame is guaranteed to be fulfilled.
In plain language, this means that here in Germany, tomorrow, August 10, 2026, we’ll have the chance to buy this deck between 6:00 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. on August 11, 2026!
A certain number of units have already been produced and can be shipped relatively soon. However, once that quantity is sold out, more will be produced. For Europe and the United Kingdom, Wizards is currently estimating delivery in June 2027 for these later Orders. So you’ll still be able to get the deck—but you might have to wait quite a while for it.
Also of interest to collectors and investors
This whole initiative is, of course, particularly interesting for collectors and investors alike. Why? Hatsune Miku is one of the most famous phenomena in Japanese pop culture and has a massive international fan base. In the past, there have already been Hatsune Miku artworks that were later sold on the secondary market for significantly higher prices.
So there’s definitely a chance that things could play out similarly with this Commander deck. While there’s no fixed quantity limit this time, the deck can only be ordered for 24 hours. This will certainly make waves within the Magic community and among hardcore Hatsune Miku fans. For the general public, however, this drop might fly somewhat under the radar, making it even more interesting for collectors down the line.
Price-wise, I can easily imagine that prices might drop briefly again when the reissued copies are shipped in June 2027, since many new decks will naturally hit the market at the same time. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop in the long term.
But here’s the good thing about this system: Investors and scalpers can jump in without immediately snapping up all the copies from fans. Anyone who absolutely wants the deck has a full 24 hours to order it at the regular price. So, unlike with other limited drops, you don’t have to click the order button within two minutes before everything sells out. This gives every fan the chance to secure the deck at the regular price.
My Conclusion
For $149.99, you get a really interesting package here. The 14 different exclusive Hatsune Miku artworks in particular are likely to be the most appealing feature for collectors. At the same time, it’s great that Wizards is taking steps this time to prevent the typical Secret Lair sell-out within a very short time.
If you want the deck, you should still stop by right at the start tomorrow if possible. Not necessarily because you’re afraid of missing out entirely, but because the units that have already been produced can, of course, be shipped much sooner than the ones that will be produced later.
In any case, I’m really curious to see how well this new system works and whether Wizards will use the print-on-demand model for other major Secret Lair releases in the future.
