Today we’re taking a look at a hot rumor from the LEGO community. According to various leaks, a new LEGO NINJAGO series is set to be released as early as 2027 —and some leakers are even callingit an “anime.” But where did this rumor come from, and how credible is it? That’s exactly what we’re going to look into today.
Where did the rumor come from?
The rumor surfaced early last month and can be traced back to an early catalog from AMEET Publishing.
AMEET has been publishing numerous official LEGO products—such as books, puzzle books, and magazines—for many years. An early version of a retailer catalog, which was available to the well-known LEGO fan channel Bricks by Mind, among others, reportedly contained an additional reference. It mentioned a new LEGO NINJAGO series for 2027, which is said to be aimed at an older audience and was referred to internally as an anime.
However, this reference was completely missing from the version of the catalog published later.
What could that mean?
Let’s take a look at the different options.
Option 1: The series was postponed
The most likely explanation is that the project was originally scheduled for 2027, but production has been delayed. Animated series often require several years of development, so a later launch in late 2027 or even as late as 2028 would be entirely realistic.
Option 2: LEGO didn’t want to announce the series just yet
Of course, it’s also possible that LEGO deliberately removed the reference so it could officially unveil the series at a later date.
Personally, though, I think this possibility is rather unlikely. San Diego Comic-Con took place just recently—a perfect opportunity for a major announcement. Although LEGO had its own NINJAGO panel there, no new series was mentioned at all.
Option 3: The project was modified or halted
It’s also possible that the project was revised internally or even put on hold for the time being. Perhaps they weren’t satisfied with the results so far, or decided to make fundamental changes to the concept, style, or direction.
Does “Anime” Really Mean Anime?
This is exactly where you need to be careful.
The term “anime” doesn’t necessarily mean that LEGO is producing a classic Japanese anime series. It could just as easily refer to an anime-like animation style.
A good example of this is LEGO Monkie Kid. This series also has a distinctly different style than LEGO NINJAGO and is visually more closely aligned with modern anime productions, without actually being a classic anime.
I currently consider that exact approach to be the most likely scenario as well.
A series for older fans?
It’s particularly interesting to note that the series is intended for an older audience.
According to rumors so far, the target audience is said to be between the ages of 12 and 14. If that’s true, LEGO might give the series a slightly more serious tone. The typical NINJAGO humor would likely remain, but at the same time, the plot, character development, and conflicts could be portrayed in a slightly more mature way.
This is sure to be an exciting development, especially for longtime fans.
My Conclusion
I was actually really excited by this rumor. I grew up with LEGO NINJAGO and followed the series for many years. At some point—around Season 15—I kind of lost track of it, though. The plot became increasingly confusing to me, and some of the stories started to feel a bit too generic over time.
That’s why I’d really appreciate a fresh start.
Right now, I personally expect that we might actually see a new LEGO NINJAGO animated series by the end of 2027 or early 2028. However, I don’t think it will be a classic anime, but rather a series with a more modern, anime-inspired animation style.
