Today and tomorrow: Try out LEGO Pokémon SMART Play at Smyths

Following Smyths’ big announcement about the catalog party at the end of September, there’s already another promotion that should be of interest to LEGO fans—and this time, it’s all about LEGO Pokémon.
On September 11 and 12, 2026, you can try out the new LEGO SMART Play technology in person at select Smyths Toys Superstores. Among the sets available are LEGO Pokémon Pikachu 72164 and Squirtle 72156.
The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. Smyths is also offering small giveaways such as sticker sheets and flyers—while supplies last, of course.
What is LEGO SMART Play?
SMART Play is the new interactive LEGO technology in which special SMART Bricks respond to movement and play. As part of the Smyths promotion, there are specially set up demo stations where children and families can try out the features for themselves.
I find this particularly exciting with the new LEGO Pokémon sets, because it lets you see how the mechanics work in practice before you decide to buy them. After all, it’s hard to gauge that kind of thing from product photos alone.

The promotion is taking place at these six Smyths stores
- Freiburg – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. each day
- Ingolstadt – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. each day
- Karlsruhe – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. both days
- Passau – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. each day
- Nuremberg Mercado Center – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. each day
- Fürth – September 11 and 12, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. each day
My tip: If you’re in the area, just grab some
Of course, I wouldn’t go out of my way just for stickers and flyers. But if you happen to have one of the six Smyths stores nearby anyway, I think it’s a pretty nice promotion—especially since you can try out the new technology right away.
And anyone thinking about buying one of the new LEGO Pokémon sets can at least get a real sense of how SMART Play works here. To me, that’s far more interesting than the little freebies.
If you’re planning to buy one, I’d recommend checking prices briefly beforehand, as always. On Brick-Tracker, you can see right away which sellers currently have the best deals on Pikachu, Squirtle, and the other LEGO Pokémon sets.
And Smyths follows right up with another announcement at the end of September
On September 26, 2026, Smyths will already be hosting its next big event: As part of the Catalog Party, all stores will feature, among other things, a LEGO NINJAGO play station where children can build a model and then take it home with them.
So it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on Smyth’s sales in September.
