LEGO Downton Abbey 21373: The price surprises me almost more than the set itself

With the new LEGO Ideas 21373 Downton Abbey, for once it wasn’t the license or the design that caught my eye first, but the price: 4,711 pieces, 13 Minifigures, and a MSRP of 299.99 euros. Given the prices LEGO has been charging for some of its large 18+ sets lately, I honestly expected this one to cost significantly more.

The set will be released on October 1, 2026, and recreates the famous facade of Highclere Castle, the real-life filming location for *Downton Abbey*. Measuring 44.9 centimeters wide and about 30.5 centimeters tall, the model is also significantly larger than it initially appears in some photos.

13 Minifigures are a real selling point for me

In my opinion, what LEGO does really well here are the minifigures. A total of 13 characters are included, including Lord and Lady Grantham, Lady Mary, Lady Edith, Carson, Mrs. Hughes, Mr. Bates, Anna Bates, and, of course, the Dowager Countess.

The printed long dresses and the all-over designs in particular look really great in the pictures. For fans of the series, the selection of characters alone is likely to account for a large part of the appeal.

The cast isn’t entirely complete, though. Among others, Sybil, Isobel, and Matthew are missing. With a series that has so many important characters, you’ll probably never be able to please everyone, but especially with a 300-euro fan set, I can understand why fans might have wanted one or two more characters included.

I’m strong from the front—but it gets harder for me from the back

I generally like the facade. The building immediately has that classic British manor house look, and in my opinion, it works even if you’re not very familiar with the show.

For me, though, the biggest criticism is the depth. LEGO is essentially building a set with interiors that’s open on the back. That’s certainly practical for a shelf, but it looks much less impressive from the side than it does from the front. However, a completely enclosed building at this scale would likely have immediately fallen into a completely different price and piece category.

Still, I find a few details to be unnecessarily compromised. The fact that many of the windows are installed from the inside and the front door apparently can’t be used properly doesn’t quite fit, in my opinion, with a large architectural display set intended for adults.

And then there’s Wayne Manor

There was one thing I realized right away when I saw it: The facade would actually work pretty well as the basis for Wayne Manor. With a little remodeling, this set could therefore even appeal to Batman fans who aren’t into *Downton Abbey* at all.

To me, that’s one of the model’s strengths in general. Unlike many licensed sets that are heavily character-driven, what you’re left with here is a fairly classic mansion that can also be used for your own MOCs or a city.

My conclusion: Surprisingly fair—but I’d still wait

All in all, I find the LEGO Downton Abbey 21373 set surprisingly interesting. 4,711 pieces and 13 Minifigures for 299.99 euros seem almost unusually good value in today’s LEGO lineup. Of course, the price per piece alone never tells the whole story, but here you clearly get a lot of content for your money.

My biggest criticism remains the open design and the shallow depth. Anyone expecting a complete castle will likely be disappointed. As a large display model with lots of figures, however, the set works pretty well for me.

When it’s released, I’d personally wait and see if LEGO includes an interesting free gift with purchase. Later, once the set becomes available at other sellers, discounts should make the whole thing even more attractive.
